Volunteers Page
Volunteering at your children centre or school can be a great way to gain those important extra skills.
It can also help you experience the world of work, when your commitments mean that you cannot take up full time employment straignt away - yet still give you real experience to put on your job applications.
It can also tell you if working in childcare or early years education, for example, is just what you wanted or just what you thought it might be.
Volunteering and working with children does mean there are some formal processes we need to go through.
This page on our site is designed to feature any opportunities we have, but to also help you with the information or questions you will need to answer.
If you are interested in volunteering with any of our centre activites - drop by our Centre office - you'll be very welcome.
''Volunteers can do almost anything! From helping an elderly neighbour with their shopping, to providing legal advice for a local charity, volunteers make a vital contribution to all aspects of community life''.
The Volunteering England is a great site to explore if you are thinking of any volunteer activity in your community.
Vounteering and State Benefits
Often people who are thinking of volunteering are worried that there benefit entitlement may be affected.
This short leaflet, courtesy of Volunteering England, explains the position.
You can download a copy of the Volunteering England Benefits leaflet here.
Volunteering while receiving benefits
This is a much longer, fuller booklet from JobCentre Plus.
It offers a wealth of information on how volunteering can help with your skills and also what impact it can have on your benefit payments.
You can download the JobCentre Plus Volunteering booklet here.
People who work directly with children or vulnerable adults must complete an application to the Crimninal Records Bureau.
